After Acne Clears - Dealing With Acne Scars
By Thomas Middleton

Many people have had and still have acne. It ravages the skin and causes people around the globe to go out in search of a way of curing/treating it quickly. For those who have had acne in their life previously and still have the scars to prove it, there are many different ways of going about treating it. You will no longer have to deal with the social awkwardness of your scars.

There are different factors that cause acne, but one of the most typical causes is the clogging of the pores. For those who have acne scars, there are three most common types, named icepick, boxcar, and rolling. The icepick scar is named as such because it looks like a scar made by an icepick, sharp and narrow. Unfortunately, this type of scarring is resistant to common types of cures and treatments such as laser re-surfacing or dermabrasion because of the depth to which this scar is embedded in the skin.

Rolling scars appear on the skin tissues that are below what everyone sees everyday, further down. This type of scarring is curable by breaking up the subcutaneous fibrous bands. Boxcar scarring is found on the surface of the skin, usually found as an oval shape with vertical edges.

While there are many different methods of treatment or treating and curing acne scars, it is extremely crucial that you weigh the benefits and the negatives of each method. Usually, if you talk to a dermatologist, they will tell you that it is best to treat acne scars with a number of different methods, as opposed to one sure-fire cure. The first type of treatment is called "Dermal Fillers". It is something that is injected into your skin in order to raise the skin tissue and give it a more smoother appearance. This is a type of treatment that you can get recommended by just about any dermatologist. Unfortunately the effects of this treatment are only temporary, so more injections are necessary in order to keep up a good appearance.

In this day of modern technology, laser resurfacing is a great option that can help treat and even cure a lot of different skin problems. There is little risk in this method and it works by burning off a layer of skin to reach the desired depth, therefore getting rid of the tainted skin with acne.

The next method is called "Punch Elevation". It is used most commonly with people who present with icepick and boxcar types of scarring. A tool is used to biopsy the scarred skin, opening the edges and stitching them together. There is a new scar created by this method, but it is not permanent.

It's important to remember to get all the information on all the different varieties of treatments there are for acne scarring. Some do some with risks, some are temporary fixes, while others may offer a lifetime without scarring.
